In the annual event, hosted by the Engineering Society and Smith Engineering at Queen's, 14 women, representing students, staff, and faculty, held roses, lit candles, and read a brief outline of each of the victims, which included 12 engineering students, one nursing student, and one staff member. A total of 14 others were injured in the shooting.

The national flag was also lowered to mark the day.
